The Department of Graduate Studies was established in the Deanship of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies in 1977, and it was entrusted with the task of supervising graduate studies in the Deanship. The first master’s program was established in the Department of Education in 1978 with the aim of qualifying teachers of the Ministry of Education and stimulating the movement of educational research and studies. Master’s programs were established In the College of Engineering in 1981, followed by the College of Science departments in 1982 and 1983. In 1994, the first class was accepted for the Ph.D. in Arabic Language, Literature and Criticism, and it continued to expand gradually, as the number of doctoral programs became (16) and the number of master’s programs was (73). There is an ambitious plan to establish doctoral and master’s programs in departments that have the appropriate capabilities.
